The use of Digital Signature also makes sense as we will typically not have large message payloads to encrypt, so it can be quick.

Using Digital Signature will also make the Sender accountable for the content of the message, as the digital signature is unique to both the document and the signer. This is called Non-Repudiation.

The Digital Signature scheme consists of the following three sub-steps:

A Key-Generation Algorithm that generates a Private Key and a corresponding public key.

A signing Algorithm that, given a message and a private key, will produce a signature.

A signature-verifying algorithm that, given the message, public key, and signature, either accepts or rejects the message's claim to authenticity.
